As usual I get newsletter from the BabyCenter.. today’s topic is about 8 hidden dangers for newborn and childproofing checklist. Phew… being a parents is really not easy… there’s lots of things that need to get ready.. let’s check out the list…
AROUND THE HOUSE
Carbon monoxide
Install carbon monoxide (CO) detectors if you use gas or oil heat or have an attached garage, and check the batteries twice a year.
We don’t need this, cause… we don’t have an attached garage…
Fire prevention
Install and maintain working smoke detectors; check monthly.
What’s this for actually.. hmm, do I need this?
Keep a fire extinguisher on hand.
Erm, i don’t think our house have extinguisher.. -_-” how to apply one? do i need to apply one or just can buy it anywhere?
Plan a fire escape route.
Hmm… this should be ok… there’s two fire escape route… One is front door, another is back door… oh.. if… the staircase got fire… err.. then maybe have to jump from the window…
First aid
Assemble a first-aid kit for babies.
Oh, i think Brandon and I have to start eyeing for this d.. first-aid kit for babies.. and get a place to put it.. of course must make sure can get the first-aid kit easily
Post emergency numbers next to your telephone.
Ya ya, this is very important too.. have to include doctor’s phone number, hospital.. err, what else arr? police station? oh… ya, baby center have a sample.. just click here to check it out
Poison control
Put childproof locks on all cabinets containing poisons, glass, and sharp objects.
locks arr.. this is a bit hard… hmm
Lead paint
If paint is flaking or peeling, have a professional remove or seal it.
All paints are still new.. so no problem
Furniture
Cover sharp furniture edges with padding or bumpers.
Done, our furniture are all rounded edges.. Brandon did a good job on this, cause he plan forward before he start design our room furniture ^^
Rugs
Put nonslip pads under area rugs that don’t have nonslip backs.
Yeah, this we have to buy… nonslip back rugs… important…
Water safety
Set your water heater no higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit (48 degrees Celsius.
hmm.. i don’t really know how hot is the water… nvm, just make sure is not too hot…
Purchase an infant bathtub with contours or other features that make it slip-resistant.
We do have the bathtub, just that have to make sure is slip-resistant…
NURSERY
Bassinet
Has sturdy bottom and wide, stable base.
Surfaces are smooth; no sharp protrusions.
Legs lock securely.
Mattress is firm.
Yeap, heard of this from quite a lot of people.. will double confirm the mattress is firm… and not soft~~
Mattress fits snugly.
Avoid soft, fluffy bedding such as pillows, comforters, or sheepskins.
yeah.. have to avoid all this.. important important
Changing table
Has a safety strap
Erm, i dont think we gonna have a changing table.. gonna help baby change on the bed.. ~~
Find a place to keep baby wipes and other supplies within your reach but out of your baby’s.
yeah… this really have to find… my room is full with things.. phew
Has a carpet or rug below in case of a fall.
Crib
Slats are no more than 2 3/8 inches apart.
Corner posts are 1/16 inch or shorter (or 16 inches or higher if there is a canopy).
Has no decorative cutouts that can entrap baby’s head.
Mattress is firm.
Mattress fits snugly (less than two fingers’ width between mattress and side).
Avoid soft, fluffy bedding such as pillows, comforters, or sheepskins.
Is positioned away from windows, heaters, lamps, wall decorations, cords, and climbable furniture.
Windows
Install window guards or window stops.
Cut looped window blind cords; use safety tassels and inner cord stops.
Outlets
Install plates that slide closed over outlets.
AWAY FROM HOME
Car
Purchase a car seat intended for infants.
Install it properly, in rear-facing position in middle of back seat.
Keep towels in the car; roll up and use to position baby or wedge under car seat.
Practice removing and reinstalling car seat correctly.
